To measure custom braided hoses, use a flexible material like string or wire to trace the path of the hose, following all curves or bends. Measure the full length of the hose from fitting to fitting, avoiding sharp bends that could impact performance. We recommend leaving a little bit of extra length to prevent tension during installation. Refer to the hose diagram when building your hose, especially taking note of the two vertical lines indicating where to precisely measure on the fittings. Remember the rule: Measure twice, cut once!

However, if your hose has a PTFE inner core, you will need to replace the metal olive inside the fitting, which is designed for single use. Before reusing, thoroughly inspect the hoses and fittings for wear or damage, and ensure the hose is free of debris by blowing it out with compressed air.

For most oil cooling needs, we suggest using reinforced rubber hoses because they are more cost-effective and offer better flexibility than PTFE hoses. Rubber hoses are easier to route in tight spaces and deliver dependable performance even under high temperatures and pressures. Although PTFE hoses provide outstanding chemical resistance, we recommend rubber hoses for oil cooling systems where ease of installation is an important factor. Whatever type of braided hose you choose, our custom oil cooler hoses will work great!

Our braided hose fittings feature a 360-degree swivel design, so you can rotate them to any angle orientation you need. If you wanted us to orientate them for you, just mention this in the notes. For a perfect fit however, it might be better to make these adjustments when you install the hoses.

When choosing between a reinforced rubber and PTFE core for oil, fuel, or coolant hoses, you need to consider what the hose will be used for. PTFE hoses are ideal for fuel lines, especially when installed inside a cabin, because they significantly reduce fuel vapour and are fully compatible with ethanol-based fuels like E85 and other high-performance racing fuels. Aggressive fuels like E85 can remain in PTFE hose between uses, so you don't need to drain the hoses after each event. PTFE braided hoses are also suited for carbon dioxide (CO²) and nitrous oxide (N²O) systems. On the other hand, reinforced rubber hoses are more flexible and are suited for oil and coolant hoses and fuel lines installed outside the cabin. When measuring PTFE hoses, it's important to avoid sharp bends to avoid kinking, so use sweeping curves or long straights for the best flow.

Stainless steel braided hoses and black nylon cotton braided hoses primarily differ in their outer layer. Stainless steel braided hoses are designed for high-pressure applications, delivering outstanding wear resistance. On the other hand, black nylon cotton braided hoses are more flexible, making them easier to install in tight spaces. Both types of braiding share the same inner core, whether that's reinforced rubber or PTFE.

When installing braided hoses close to direct heat sources like an exhaust manifold or turbo, we strongly recommend adding the optional heatsleeve for maximum protection. This protective firesleeve helps shield the hose from extreme temperatures reaching up to 1200°C, extending its lifespan and potentially making a crucial difference in an emergency situation. You can add heatsleeve when building your hose for most hose sizes, including AN6, AN8, AN10, and AN12.

It's wise to regularly inspect all your hoses, especially in high-performance or high-temperature environments. Look for leaks, kinks, bulges, abrasions on the braided hose, and check the braided hose fittings for cracks or leaks. Replace any damaged hoses immediately to prevent serious damage.
