What is the SUSA Cooling Fan and Oil Pump Thermal Switch used for?
This thermal switch is designed to automatically activate a 12V cooling fan relay or oil pump relay when the fluid temperature reaches a preset level. It's ideal for managing temperatures in high-performance oil, coolant, or transmission systems.
-
What activation temperatures are available?
The switch is available with the following activation temperatures:
- 82°C (180°F)
- 88°C (190°F)
- 93°C (200°F)
Each variant has a corresponding reset temperature to ensure proper cycling:
- 82°C activates at 82°C and resets at 74°C
- 88°C activates at 88°C and resets at 79°C
- 93°C activates at 93°C and resets at 85°C
-
How is the switch installed?
The switch features a 1/8"-27 NPT male thread, allowing it to be installed into any compatible female port. It's commonly used with inline adapters, oil filter sandwich plates, or directly into engine blocks or cylinder heads that have the appropriate threading.
-
Can the switch be wired directly to a fan or pump?
No, the switch is not designed to handle high current loads directly. It must be wired to activate a relay, which in turn controls the fan or pump. This setup ensures safe and reliable operation.
-
What are the electrical specifications of the switch?
The switch has the following electrical characteristics:
- Terminal Size: Amp #250 Tab (1/4")
- Electrical Rating: 16A at 250VAC, 15A at 125VAC, 10A at 250VAC (Resistive Load)
- Circuit Resistance: 50mΩ Maximum
- Insulation Resistance: 100MΩ Minimum @ DC 500V
- Dielectric Strength: AC 1250V (1 Minute) or AC 1800V (3 Seconds)
-
Is the switch compatible with your custom braided hoses?
Yes, the switch can be integrated into systems using our custom braided hoses, provided that the system includes a component with a 1/8"-27 NPT female port for installation.
-
Is the switch reusable?
Yes, the switch is designed for repeated use. It can be removed and reinstalled in another suitable application as needed.
