How Do AN Male Adapters Seal?

AN/JIC fittings use a 37° flare to create the seal. The male cone on the adapter mates against the corresponding 37° sealing surface inside a compatible female AN/JIC fitting. The thread draws the two sealing surfaces together but is not itself the primary sealing surface.
