What are bonded seal Dowty washers used for?
Bonded seals are used to create a fluid-tight seal between suitable fittings and mating surfaces. They are commonly used in brake, clutch, fuel, oil, coolant and hydraulic systems.
-
What is a Dowty washer?
A Dowty washer is a type of bonded seal consisting of a metal outer ring with a bonded rubber sealing element. The rubber compresses against the mating surfaces while the metal ring provides support and controls the amount of compression.
-
What sizes are available?
We offer the following internal diameters:
- 10mm – M10, 3/8" and 1/8" BSPP
- 12mm – M12
- 14mm – M14 and AN6
- 16mm – M16 and 3/8" BSPP
- 18mm – M18
- 22mm – M22
-
Are these bonded seals compatible with your custom braided hoses?
They can be used with compatible fittings and connections within brake, clutch, fuel, oil and coolant hose systems. Select the washer according to the fitting and sealing surface rather than the hose size itself.
-
How do I install a bonded seal?
Position the bonded seal between the fitting and its mating surface, then tighten the connection to the appropriate torque specification. The rubber sealing element compresses to create the seal. Always check the completed connection for leaks before use.
-
Can bonded seal Dowty washers be reused?
They may be reused if the rubber sealing element remains undamaged, flexible and securely bonded to the metal ring. Replace the washer if the rubber is cut, hardened, distorted or otherwise damaged.
-
Are the bonded seals sold individually?
Yes. Each bonded seal is sold individually, so you can select the required size and order exactly the quantity you need.
