What is a Bonded Seal?

A bonded seal, commonly known as a Dowty washer, combines a metal outer ring with a bonded elastomer sealing element. When the fitting is tightened, the rubber element compresses between the mating surfaces to form the seal while the metal ring provides support and controls compression.

Reusable When Serviceable

Unlike a conventional crush washer, a bonded seal may be reused if the rubber sealing element remains undamaged and retains its elasticity. For critical applications, replacing the washer whenever the connection is dismantled provides the greatest confidence in the seal.
