The male AN connection uses a JIC 37° cone flare and seals against the corresponding flare inside a compatible female AN fitting.

The imperial connection seals against a compatible mating port using the supplied O-ring rather than sealing on the thread itself.

No. The imperial connection is designed to seal using the supplied O-ring, so PTFE tape or thread sealant should not be used as the primary sealing method.
